The theme on which the artists are invited to express themselves is “Energy : Mankind = Future : Environment. Proportions for new aesthetics”, concepts that guide Terna in defining strategy for developing its infrastructures in an eco-sustainable way. The Terna 02 Award uses this proportion to create a new paradigm for reading and interpreting contemporary issues.
The objective is to focus on the new challenges posed by the future, on current themes and sustainability in the awareness that within our era no philosophical program, no paradigm can exist without fully respecting a harmonious development with the Planet’s needs.
This occurs also in Economics as in Aesthetics.
In managing Energy as in Art.
The idea of developing proportionally to the planet’s needs is formally represented in the mathematical expression of proportions. This proportion underlines the inevitable connection between the two ratios: the one that mankind establishes with energy is the same that is established between the environment and its future. Through the four terms of the proportion, the artists may propose their intuition and artistic vision on the Award’s theme.
Energy: Mankind
In the first ratio of the proportion, we find a universe of possible visions since both terms can be interpreted literally or metaphorically: the forms of “energy” created by man become infinite; the meanings of the term “mankind” become infinite; the tonalities of the ratio between the two elements become infinite.
Future: Environment
In the second ratio of the proportion, both elements can be interpreted literally or metaphorically. For the term “environment”, the modern philosophical-ecological vision has made us accustomed to considering it as containing many different meanings. This holds true also for the term “future”, that can be freely interpreted first of all in the temporal sense: how many times the past can be considered as the “future” of previous eras ? Secondly, it can freely be interpreted in the broader sense, for example as “premonition”, “prediction”, “projection”, “anticipation”. The proportion definitively opens up artistic exploration to territories of every era, every culture and every field of human knowledge.
