Regulations for the Terna Prize for Contemporary Art “Terna 02 Prize”
Art. 1 – PROMOTER OF THE PRIZE AND COMPETITION PURPOSES
1.1 Terna S.p.A., with head office in Rome, via Arno 64, 00198, is the promoter of the ”Terna 02 Prize”.
1.2 The Terna 02 Prize is an awards competition (the “Terna 02 Prize”) aimed at promoting contemporary artists and art in Italy and at enhancing the relationship between art and the business world. The Prize is divided into 3 categories for the national section (MEGAWATT, GIGAWATT AND TERAWATT) in which Italian and foreign artists can participate who work steadily in Italy and into a category for the international section (CONNECTIVITY NEW YORK), in which Italian and foreign artists can participate who work steadily in New York City (districts of Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island).
The Terna 02 Prize also includes a social initiative in the cultural and artistic field and part of the prize reserved for the established artist category (TERAWATT) will be assigned to this initiative; in this way, these artists become the protagonists of the ambitious project of enhancing Italian art and visual culture. The information about this initiative will be published in the website: www.premioterna.com.
1.3 The Terna 02 Prize includes organizing one or more exhibits and a color catalogue (the “Catalogue”) as well as assigning the final Prizes for a total value of 185,000.00 euros (one hundred and eighty five thousand euros).
1.4 The winning Artworks of the Terna 02 Prize will be awarded during a ceremony (the “Prize Ceremony”) and will be displayed at an exhibit (the “Exhibit”) that will take place both within the month of December 2009 at a museum or other venue in the city of Rome or Milan; this information will be published in the website www.premioterna.com.
1.5 The Terna 02 Prize will begin on May 26, 2009 (“Beginning Date”) and the artists can participate by submitting their Artworks within 6:00 p.m. of October 10, 2009 (”Last Registration Date”). Prizes must be collected no later than January 31, 2010.
1.6 The Terna 02 Prize is promoted and takes place on the Italian territory and in New York City (districts of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens and Staten Island).
2.1 The subject of the Terna 02 Prize on which the artists are required to express their creativity is “Energy:Mankind = Future:Environment. The proportion for new aesthetics”, concepts that guide Terna in defining its development strategy for infrastructures supporting eco-sustainability. The Terna 02 Prize is based on this proportion to establish a new paradigm for reading and interpreting contemporary issues. The objective is to call the attention to new challenges posed by the future on current issues and sustainability based on the awareness that in our present times, no planning philosophy and no paradigm can exist without fully respecting the Planet’s needs. In Economics as in Aesthetics. In Energy management as in Art.
The idea of development that is proportional to our planet’s needs is formally represented in the mathematical equation of a proportion. This proportion underlines the inevitable link between the two ratios: the one that mankind establishes with energy is the same one that is established between the environment and its future. Through the four terms of this proportion, that can be interpreted both literally and metaphorically, the artists can propose their perceptions and artistic vision on the Prize’s theme.

The national section of the Terna 02 Prize is open to the participation of both Italian and foreign artists who work steadily on the Italian territory and as of the Beginning Date have turned 18 years of age and are in possession of the requirements indicated in article 5 that follows with reference to each Category of the Terna 02 Prize.
