Must I be an established artist to participate?
In order to participate in the Terna Prize 02 one must not be an established artist. All emerging artists will be registered in the GIGAWATT, MEGAWATT or CONNECTIVITY category according to their age (under or over 35). A third category, TERAWATT, will be reserved to senior artists who have already exhibited their works in important museums.

Who are the curators of the Prize?
The Prize was created based on Terna’s idea. The curators are Gianluca Marziani and Cristiana Collu.

It is possible to register in two ways:
1.registering online in this website in section “Participation”
2.registering by mail or courier, send the Registration Form filled out in all its sections, your CV accompanied by your photograph and a cd with the images

The Artworks selected as winners will receive, in relation to each Category, the following Prizes:
TERAWATT Prize: a prize for the value of 100,000.00 euros according to the following terms:
70.000,00 euros to be allocated for the social initiative stated in art.1.2;
30.000,00 euros to be allocated to the artist who, during the next edition of the Prize (2010) may contribute to the prize’s creativity through suggestions and ideas inspired by his own aesthetic and conceptual aspects. The contribution may regard a visual idea, an entire image or a group of images connected with the theme that the company will provide in advance to the artist.
GIGAWATT Category
For the winner: an “Artist Residency Program” lasting 3 months in New York, for a value of nearly 20,000.00 euros.
Second prize: a purchase bonus for the value of 4,000.00 euros.
Third prize: a purchase bonus for the value of 3,000.00 euros
MEGAWATT Category
For the winner: an “Artist Residency Program” lasting 3 months in New York, for a value of nearly 20,000.00 euros.
Second prize: a purchase bonus for the value of 4,000.00 euros.

CONNECTIVITY NEW YORK Category:
For the winner: an “Artist Residency Program” lasting 3 months in Rome, Italy for a value of nearly 20.000,00 euros.

What types of art works can participate?
The artist can present a new artwork or one that was created not more than 12
months prior to the date of the competition’s opening, that has never participated in other awards or competitions and that addresses the theme “Energy : Mankind = Future : Environment. Proportions for new aesthetics”. The size of the artwork can vary and reach a maximum of 3 meters x 3 meters.The works can be created with the following techniques: PAINTING: with any technique and with any type of support, such as oils, acrylic, ink, vinyl, water colors, graphite, pencil, industrial paints, canvas, paper, wood, plastic, iron.
PHOTOGRAPHS, ELABORATIONS and LIGHT-BOX: traditional and digital photography and light-box. A mix of painting and mechanical and digital techniques are also allowed, from photography to the many different digital manipulations.
Stills from videos are also accepted, Polaroids, photographs from cellular phones and all works that are bi-dimensional.
Every artist must indicate the title of the Artwork and provide a brief statement explaining the connection between the project presented and the award’s theme.

Can I participate even if I am not Italian?
Foreign artists can also participate, on the condition that they work steadily in Italy or in New York City (i.e. reference gallery, art studio, etc.)

How will the winners be chosen?
Pertinence to the Prize’s theme, quality, research and innovation will be the fundamental selection criteria for the participating Artworks.

Will there be a closing ceremony?
An exhibit of the winning artworks will be held and an awards ceremony. Both will be held in December 2009 at a museum or suitable venue in Rome.

Will the artworks be returned to the artists
The winning artworks will become the property of Terna and will therefore not be returned to the artists. The artworks that will not receive awards will remain the property of the respective artists.

Will there be an exhibit and/or show/sale for all the participating artworks?
The Terna 01 Award includes the organization of one ore more exhibition events, of a color catalogue and the final assigning of money awards. The exhibit of the winning artworks and the awards ceremony will be held at the end of November 2009 at a museum or at an accredited venue in Rome.

The artwork proposed must not have participated in other awards or competitions. The artists, however, may participate in other awards or competitions at the same time, presenting different artworks.

Yes, the artwork must be linked to the theme “Energy:Mankind = Future:Environment. The proportion for new aesthetics”.
The artists is required to interpret this theme in a broad and personal way.

Will there be a final catalogue for all the art works?
A final catalogue will be published to include all the artworks that will participate in the award’s final phase. The catalogue will be presented and be available during the awards ceremony. It will subsequently be distributed by the editor in select book stores.

Can a group of artists participate with a joint work?
There are no limitations, provided the artwork addresses the award’s theme and the artists of the group meet the requirements. (For the age, the youngest artist will be considered).

The Terna Prize is at its secondo edition and will end on October 30, 2009. The final event, with the selection of the finalists, the presentation of the catalogue and the awards ceremony, is scheduled to take place within December 2009, provided unforeseen circumstances beyond one’s control arise. The dates and modalities of the next editions of the Prize to be organized will be announced online at www.premioterna.com.

Through this website in the dedicated section. All the participating art works in the Terna Prize 02, regardless of the Category, will participate in the ONLINE Award. Visitors of the website www.premioterna.com may vote for the Artworks during the time frame that starts at 8:00 a.m. on October 10, 2009 and ends at 6:00 p.m. on October 20, 2009 (the “Voting Period”), expressing only one preference. Voting will be anonymous. Any votes received prior or after the Voting Period will not be accepted. The winning Artwork will be the one the receives the highest number of votes.
