AMACI celebrates the ''Contemporary Art Day''

Open house for artists and new ideas. On October 3rd, over 1000 art venues will open to the public with exhibits, laboratories, events and conferences. An opportunity to closely live the complex and lively world of contemporary art. Terna as a supporting partner.

The contemporary art day is back. On October 3rd, the museums of the AMACI network (Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museums) and nearly one thousand contemporary art venues will open their collections to the public for a free initiative, unique within the international scenario. The day will be devoted to the most innovative artistic expressions from paintings, to sculptures, installation artworks, performances and videos exhibited in twenty three Italian contemporary art museums and many other locations. "The Contemporary Art Day – explained Gabriella Belli, president of the AMACI association – year after year receives wide consensus: a day that wants to emphasize the idea that contemporary art is important for a country that intends to grow. We believe that innovation can be promoted also through the creativity of contemporary artists. Through our initiative, we wish to spread as widely as possible the concept of contemporary art, namely, the capability of living one’s own time”. The purpose is to cultivate within the collective consciousness the perception that contemporary art represents an element of our cultural heritage. Open house to creativity. For the entire day, a series of events, exhibits, conferences and meetings will enrich our country’s cultural offer.

Luigi Ontani is the artist selected by AMACI for creating the image for the fifth edition of the Contemporary Art Day. "Ingadgiato" (“gadgeted”)is the title of the artwork created specifically by Ontani for this event: a photographic self-portrait in which Ontani -through the use of his typical eclectic and irreverent language- depicts himself trapped in a fisherman’s net from which gadgets are hanging and promotional materials from the museums belonging to the Association and to the cities hosting them. The Contemporary Art Day, under the High Patronage of the President of Italy, is also supported by the General Directorate for the landscape, Fine Arts, Architecture and Contemporary Art of the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities, by the patronage of Representation of the European Commission in Milan, the Prime Minister’s Office, the State Senate, the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces, the Union of Italian Provinces, the National Association of Italian Cities and Municipalities and by the ICOM Italia. The UniCredit Group is reconfirmed as the event’s Official Partner and Terna is the new Supporting Partner
